hi. I have noticed, that even with the recent changes to anagram mania, that people are still cheating. i mean, it's obvious they're cheating.
1. it's the same people that are in the lead each morning when i get up.
2. i never see these people on during the day.
I have a suggestion. Do you think that you should like limit who can play to give other people a chance? I don't know how hard that would be to do, but like if the same people are in the lead, block them from being in the list and give other people a chance or something. Thanks.

that wasn't very nice BG! I myself get extremely mad with the cheating - have been ever since it started but unfortunately there's not much anyone can do about it. they will always cheat no matter what! .. :(
I get mad at the chaters too, but I realize that they just plain cant' be stopped, and also it's just a game, and you can't do anything with the points, so even though it's very very annoying, there's no sense worrying about it. I wish the chating could stop, but it can't. Sadly...

Way out of line? Honestly, people take that game way to seriously sometimes. Play the game and get your points; don't worry about what others are doing on it. We've been over that a million times. There's nothing we can do about the cheaters. We've done 3 versions of the scoring system to try and deter them. Now what do you want? Do you want us to spend the rest of our damn lives tweaking the game or doing things to improve the rest of the site? Sorry to be blunt, but I thought this was a dead issue.

the changes weren't made to combat cheating. they were made to limit the rewards given. We can't get rid of cheaters, but we can limit what they win.
I know it sucks for the people who work hard onthe anagrams, but.. It's life, and there's nothing we can do about it.

It's so sad when people post nasty things when they really have absolutely nothing meaningful to say about a discussion. If we were all to "go out and get alive" there would be no point in anyone developing or caring about this web site. I think suggesting to right wrongs that people notice is a perfectly valid point to bring up and if the site developers don't feel their time spent on it is worth it they just say so but at least they've been notified of the problem and know about it. But for someone to jump in and try and turn this into the old personal attack cyndrum is just extremely sad and, I think in all fairness, says the most about the person doing it. BlindGuy my friend, you need something to calm you down, some blunts, external hobbies, education .. whatever it is, just go and get it.

I wholeheartedly endorse the sentiments of Wildebrew which further the expression of the sentiments I hitherto expressed on this jolly old discussion. I would emphasise the education as something our friend Blindguy needs to get. maybe if he didn't cheat on anagrams, his vocabulary and mental dexterity would be somewhat more matured and he wouldn't have to resort to personal mud-slinging.
way to go fucker, I played anagrams once, got one word, and the only reason I played it was I lost all my points at blackjack. The fact that you guys can produce posts that critisize me in a litterate way that requires thought just proves you need to find other things to do with your time.
Blindguy, I never said it required thought to criticise you. On the contrary, the criticisms to which you leave yourself open are so blindingly obvious that it requires no mental ability on my part whatsoever to come to the conclusion that you're a person who resorts to obscenities and below the belt insults if you see anything on here that does not fit in with your insular, rather blinkered view of the world. You've got a lot to learn, my friend, a lot to learn. And just in case you accuse me of having nothing better to do with my time again, I should inform you that I am currently a student lawyer which requires me not only to attend various classes but also to frequently visit court and sometimes conduct small trials, so my schedule is far from empty.

I work full time and I'm working on an MBA degree part time, lay instruments and am planning to start recording an album in January .. I still find time to hang out here every now and then and it's a nice mental break in a hectic schedule .. and pointing out things that might be wrong with the site is, indeed, the responsible thing to do, throwing insults at people is rather sad and childish, especially if you can't back them up with better logic .. you just stabbed yourself in the foot, better luck next time.

Wow, blindguy not only hhas a friend but actually "friends", it's ok man, you don't have to convince us that your life is cool, meaningful and that you're the most popular guy around. Just elax, come down and enjoy the zone. I'm more than happy to get to know new people and if it wasn't for a totally unnecessary and ridiculous unwarranted verbal assault I'd be all for welcoming you to the zone. As it is, perhaps it was just a bit of misunderstanding or a one-time thing .. so why not just give it a fresh start and be a little more considerate, making the site more enjoyable for everyone else in the process. Ouch that had to hurt! No one has the right to be attacked in their own discussions. Um if you really are that desperate to gain points blindguy play hangman or blingo. My favorite is hi/lo and I sometimes lose all of my points because I got greedy. But I'm not a bad sport about it am I? No. In fact I laugh at what I did. That's funny, I've been to many internet message boards and never seen someone trying to be cool by attacking a post and making it personal. And given the amount of time you apparently spend hanging out with friends and having a life it's incredible how much you know about internat chat boards *sigh*.
Anyways, if you are really right I'm happy that blind people observe a basic principle of consideration that the sighted community is lacking (although I very much disagree that this is how internet message boards are). Of course it's also the norm to post discussions with sex? (sounds more like torturing really) audio embedded, but then again it makes sense that peole who frequent such boards are the same people who don't know the first thing about normal communication.
But, hey, I dont want to turn this into a personal issue, we are all adults here (well, most of us .. at least according to the profiles) so feel free to be as "cool" as you want and best of luck with that. I'd prefer it if you actually refrained from insulting people unprovoked, but if it makes you happy go ahead.

Note I'm pretty sure this works only under itnernet explorer. It's no different then posting pictures to tubgirl.com or goatse.cx, but since most people are blind I have to use sound. You must never go on college messege boards then because I'm calm for that atmosphere.

Blindguy, before you start correcting other people's English, you should work a bit on your own. For a start, you mention internet forums: actually, I think you'll find that the plural of forum is fora. Forum of course comes from Latin and is a group 2 Neuter nown, hence: forum, forum, foro, fori, fora, fora, fororum, foris. secondly, when you are comparing two things such as 'that internet board is more polite than this one' you suse the word Than, as in t h a n rather than t h e n like you used on your previous nonsense post. Next, I've been on plenty of message boards where we have not had to resort to obscenities to get our point across, although you are learning some vocabulary at least in the the F word seems now to have disappeared from your childish contributions. Thank you very much indeed Japanimangel! I can't take all the dredit though: blindguy has made things easier but not being one of the brightest buttons on these boards himself. All one has to do is put together a reasoned, researched, thoroughly common sense argument and his case collapses. You just watch: the next post will accuse me of having nothing to do again, or allege that my IQ is too low, or resort to the adjectival potential of obscenities.

Most surprising, he is hmm, I think 18 or something; whenever it happens to me I just would left it, not making reasonable, out of no were ""get a good life" points because they are just worthless to read, and have nothing to do with the post on the boards. So well, bg, you just completely and deliverately rude, got the point way out of the original post. You don't have to be the most impertinent person to be cool even being deaf, blind or with any other disavilities. Certainly is. speaking of which, zone users should in my opinion be required to sign up to a fair-play agreement concerning the games. Any zone user caught cheating should not only be excluded, but have all their hard drive's data removed by expert hackers employed specifically for the purpose. If admin would like me to draft such a contract for them I would of course do so for a sreasonable fee.

You might want to get hold of the Oxford University pass list for 2004 in law and law with law studies in Europe which is available to the public I believe. I'm not sure where this idea of my free time springs from. i'm a very quick typist so it doesn't take long to post to discussions in my case, as I can type about 70 words a minute which explains why I sometimes make stupid mistakes. I'll admit there are times when I have a fair amount of time on my hands, but this doesn't seem to have affected the standard of my work given my two recent mock assessments grading me very competent already, and this after only eight weeks of the cocurse. there is only one grad above very competent, and this is outstanding. Needless to say, my ultimate aim is to be called to the bar with an outstanding over all on the bar vocational course.

And, by the way, I have to dissagree with LL on one point. The use of the "f word" isn't so bad. I mean, really folks, it's just another word like anagram zone or anything else. What makes a person seem like they're less inteligent is the repeated use of this word, or any other word for that matter. In my opinion, it's not the word itself, but the amount of times you say or write this word, and the way in wich it is used.
Indeed that was the point I was trying to make. I use the F word myself from time to time but I don't feel taht one has to toss it in gratuitously at the drop of a hat, especially as this is a discussion which, more likely than not, the younger zone users might be interested in reading. Now call me old-fashioned if you really must, but I do still think that on discussions where younger users might be likely to participate, people should perhaps mind their language a bit. i'm not naive enough to think that young people don't come across the F word in their day to day life, that would be ridiculous, but that doesn't alter the fact that we should exercise caution.

Freya I do hope that is not a thinly veiled insult of my intelligence. I doubt whether it is because I wouldn't expect such a thing of you, and I hope I am correct in judging you thus. I will admit that the bar vocational course is not very strenuous compared with my Oxford degree, and as I'm sure you're aware Freya, i fared pretty well in that course, taking one of the highest first class honours M.A.'s in English and French law in the university. The bar exams place very much more emphasis on professional interpersonal skills such as conference techniques, negotiation, advocacy and drafting, an d here is very little academia, hence the word 'vocational' in the course title. Now, I am aware that this post may make me seem very up myself and arrogant or Narcissistic or whatever adjective you choose along those lines, but I won't stand by and allow the degradation of a career path upon which I have worked very hard to embark. Speaking of defence, Acosha and wildebrew, I can only offer you my many thanks. It would be fruitless to say more than this as it would not do justice to the comments you have both made about me. I also agree with you both that Freya should put her money where her mouth is, pay the £40 application fee and apply to study the BVC next September. We shall see.

an MA Cantab is Cambridge, an MA Oxon is Oxford. And no, normal degrees are actually classed as a BA. The reason I have an MA, Freya, is because I also have a french law qualification as part of my degree. i spent four years as an undergraduate, during which time I gained the normal Oxford law degree plus the Certificat de Droit Francais. Thus it is clear to you why I have a masters and not a bachellors as it the standard degree awarded. Now, as to the BVC, have you thought where you would like to do pupillage? Only one in five applications for pupillage succeeds, they only take the best which explains why I got a pupillage I suppose, I'm so so good!

Getting a law degree isn't easy anywhere; I use to want to do it, but changed my mind for personal reasons. I commend you Lawlord for going for it and working hard. By the way, most people I know, know the difference between a masters and a batchlers.

The idea that you are awarded a master's when you complete a bachellor's degreee at any university is simply absurd, and that applies to any subject you study. MA requires 9 months of intense course work or two years of normal academic work load in most fields. I can't speak for Cambridge per say but I know LSE is like that and all the ivy league universities, all other U.S. and scandenavian universities I've ever heard of and the very definition of ba vs ma defines m.a. as additional specific course work applied to the top of a bachellor's degree. So your annictodal evidence that you heard about someone who was awarded a master's after getting a b.a. sounds at best extremely questionable to me and I would not ever believe it unlessI was given his graduation certificate. Now you can take master's and b.a. degrees simultaneously if you're willing to go through extreme course loads during your b.a. study, it is possible and I know people who have, it requires taking between 7 and 10 classes per semester vs te 4 to 5 that is required for the b.a. degree, but that has nothing to do with automatically handing one degree to a student just because he did get another.
And I've actually seen a post where you called LL's claims into question, whether that is important or not, it is certainly not important enough so that I start browsing through the boards and pinpointing it, if I misunderstood something you said at that point you have my appologies, but generally speaking I would like to see something a bit more constructive from you and, in any case, we've strayed so much off the original topic I hardly remember what it was.

Freya you are partly right, it used to be the policy that an MA was awarded 21 terms after matriculation. However, that has been discontinued for some years now, at least in Oxford's case. I can't speak for the Tabs (Cambridge).
Wildebrew, absurd as it may seem to you it is actually a FACT that Cambridge and I thought also Oxford universities award an MA sometime after you graduate with you bachelors degree. I am a close personal friend of someone who studied Law at Cambridge and did just that. It is a well known fact over here that an MA Cantab is not the same as an MA that you work for. You may expect something 'more contstructive' from me well I expect you to at least know what you are talking about which you obviously, patently do not. Anything I have said to LL was meant in jest, the problem with you lot is you have absolutely no idea of a sense of humour, of course I'm not going to train for the bloody bar!! I actualy said I didn't know how it worked with Cambridge so, I didn't say someting that I didn't know. Everything else that I said is correct and like LL said Oxford have disconsintued this rather absurd custom, if Cambridge is somewhat lacking behind that's certainly their thing.

that depends on what you would consider constructive, freya. i'm sure a lot of people would say that i have posted some constructive things, unlike you. you always put people down in your posts, and a lot of my friends would say that that is not constructive.

I thought the point of a message board would be to discuss different views on topics and to come up with things/topics to discuss. If you look at acosha's topic origination she's actually created a lot of topics and a lot of them have gotten tons of replies (heck, who created the very discussion we are posting to know, just a theoretical question of couse).
To me, and to most people I know it is interesting to read different views on a topic but your posts, by enlarge, seem to be aimed at putting posters down, particularly LawLord, Goblin or, now me and Acosha, although I suppose I provioked that to some degree. Of course you have the freedom to do that because "anything goes on the internet" and if it makes you happy I can't stop you from doing it. I just expressed the opinion that perhaps bringing up something a little bit more in the way of general opinion on a subject rather than something explicitly aimed at breaking down argument would make the whole discussion more enjoyable to myself as a reader. Oddly enough I am perfectly free to express that and how you interprete my words is entirely up to you. And, like I've always said, there is no such thing as a humble opinion, not even when you use a fancy acronym for it.

My facts were right but when he said he worked for his degree I accepted that and agreed. I repeat, I have heard no complaints from LL about me putting him down and I never wanted to talk to you and Acosha in the first place. Well, let's just agree to disagree at this point.
It's just a discussion board, I learnt about the MA, which, to me, is quiet surprising I must say, but I will admit to being misinformed when that is the case. I don't expect my degrees to justify me knowing everything and I probably should've checked around for the actual facts before posting, this is why I got my degrees in math, not debating (which ultimately leads to law practicing for the most part).
I suppose I'm still not sued to your rather confortnational style and that your posts are if not always then over95% of the time aimed at certain people rather than at topics, but that is your style and I can choose to read or not to read your posts, just like you can.
So I think that will be my closing argument, even if it isn't a real argument, let's just call it commentary for now.

I think we exhausted the topic a long long long time ago witchcraft, but as this is not competitive debating stricto sensu I doubt that it matters that we've gone way off the topic. What's up with anagrams? The other night it didn't take jewel or jewlry, even though the letters were there and my spellingn is correct. No tonight it won't let me make pleurals of words like rail and many other words, even though the letters are there to do that. Talk about cheating!

i was surprised to find they used a scrabble dictionary. I gree with Lawlord and think they should use a full dictionary for this thing. not pluralling rail or any other singular word is crazy when the letters are there to do so.

I agree. I think it would be great if they'd use the OED. Sometimes I'm amazed at what the computer will accept as a word, and it works the other way, too. Sometimes I'm amazed at the words it won't take.
